Immanuel Baptist Church is a Welcoming and Affirming community to all, regardless of individual differences such as race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity. At Immanuel you are sincerely welcome to worship and witness as you are and who you know yourself to be.

I am a member at Immanuel Baptist Church at 815 Park Avenue in Rochester, New York.

Immanuel is a diverse, growing urban community that worships God with grateful hearts and the Christian love we share.  We are warm, open, accepting, loving, curious, and here we are free to enjoy a personal relationship with God. We're not your garden-variety "of like (closed) mind" sort of group.  The White Lotus Society Buddhist Meditation Center is on the second floor of our church building and you will likely be surprised by how alike our minds can be and how we influence each other's faith.  We also have a close relationship with Spiritus Christi Church and host a Baptist-Catholic Mass each Tuesday at noon.  Our eclectic group also includes some spiritual but not religious types, and we all get along and are happy to be together.

We are committed to neighborhood outreach and to social responsibility.

We are American Baptists. We have been called "the good Baptists".  Unlike evangelical Christians we are a mainline-Protestant denomination and extremely diverse in perspective.  We do not cling to creeds or doctrines.  Rather, we embrace our freedom to enjoy a one-to-one relationship with God, and love God and self and each other.

Immanuel is a member congregation of American Baptist Churches USA, one of the most diverse Christian denominations today with over 5,200 congregations comprised of 1.3 million members across the United States and Puerto Rico.

What I find here...

Immanuel is an amazing community, very diverse and spiritually stimulating with an intellectual bent.  Located in the Park Avenue Neighborhood.

Immanuel appeals to suburban and city dwellers of every stripe including an educated, sophisticated population who may have found other religious experiences to be lacking, but find here a place to satisfy a longing for deeper understanding of our place in the universe and our reason for being, and profound awe and respect and gratitude to the Source of the amazing gift of it all, to each and every one of us.

We also find here our sense of purpose; serving our comumnity in a multitude of ways. There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth, we are all crew

What I experience here, I practice in the world...

Social Justice

What does the Lord require of us? To do justice, to love one another, to be compassionate, and to walk humbly with God.
Micah 6:8

I am a member of Greater Rochester Community of Churches Faith in Action Network

The GRCC Faith in Action Network is an ecumenical association of Protestant and Roman Catholic churches, religious based agencies, seminaries, and lay/clergy groups that has served Monroe County since 1991.

Cultural Justice

We are called by God to the Gospel of Peace.  This calling is rooted in our faith in Jesus Christ, who is our Peace, in whom God is reconciling the world and through whom God calls us to the ministry of peacemaking.

I am a member of Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America

The Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America gathers, equips and mobilizes Baptists to build a culture of peace rooted in justice.

My spirituality also informs my calling in the community...

I am on staff as chaplain at UR Medicine / Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York.

Highland Hospital is well known for its comprehensive orthopaedics services, women's services, nationally ranked geriatrics program, regional leading gastric bypass surgery center, extensive network of primary care physicians, newly renovated radiology department, medical/radiation oncology, cardiology, neurology, and much more.

Highland Hospital Chaplaincy Department offers 24-hour spiritual care to people of all faiths through professional Chaplains experienced in providing care in a hospital setting. We are here to offer support, comfort, and encouragement to our patients and families and loved ones; and as treatment team members assist, support and encourage Highland Hospital medical, surgical and social work professionals and the entire hospital staff.
